Insurance Billing

Odyssey Insights Counseling does not accept insurance at this time, and many of my clients actually prefer it that way!

Here are some of the advantages:

  • You won’t have a diagnosis label permanently attached to your health record.

  • Your records are protected, which means all information about you, including very personal information, cannot be obtained by the insurance company.

  • Your care is not dictated by the insurance company, but by the collaborative efforts formed by my professional expertise and your personal preferences and goals.

I will gladly provide you with documentation for out-of-network benefits.

PAYMENT

Payment is due at the time of service. I process payments through Stripe, which offers secure storage of your payment information.

I accept all major credit cards, cash, and check.

I also accept Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) as payment.

Good faith estimate for cash pay & out of network patients

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. Make sure your health care provider gives you a GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a GFE before you schedule an item or service. You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

The GFE shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for services provided by Odyssey Insights Counseling. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. It does not take into account any reimbursement that you may receive as a result of out of network benefits.

The GFE does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. You may contact Brian Oduguwa, owner of Odyssey Insights Counseling to let her know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

 4 38-52 min length sessions per month = $560

 2 38-52 min length sessions per month = $280

Duration and intensity of treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis by you and your therapist. You are free to discontinue treatment at any time, and your clinician will regularly review treatment goals and progress with you in session. Many people experience improvement of symptoms after 5-12 session.

Self-pay/Private pay vs Insurance billing

There are several reasons a person may choose not to bill their insurance for therapy, including, not needing a formal diagnosis to start therapy, no limits on how many sessions you can attend, availability of teletherapy (not all insurances cover this), and not having to share your mental health records with your insurance company. If you do not have insurance or choose not to bill your insurance for therapy, you will be considered private pay, and payment is due at time of service. You will not be able to request insurance be billed for past services.
